Konkani education

Konkani education is one of the main objectives of VKK. Konkani being the State language of Goa, Konkani education has a priority in that State. In the states of Kerala, Karnataka and Maharashtra Konkani being a minority language required assistance by NGO. In Karnataka the State Government permitted teaching Konkani as third language from 6 th to 10 th Std from 2007 and created approved text books. We have supported this program by providing trained teachers whose monthly honorarium is paid from VKK, to Schools in the three districts of DK, UK and Udupi from 2010, the first batch having been blessed by late T Vimala V Pai, our Patron and was a teacher herself. In an average 400 students per year learn how to read and write Konkani by curriculum with So far more than 4000 students taking this benefit. They are granted yearly study scholarships, school bags and Konkani reading & writing primers by VKK. Our teachers visit VKK twice a year for training camps. Many of them have now acquired MA PG degrees in Konkani. VKK also celebrates ‘Konkani Teachers Day’ every year. The program in charge Trustee of the VKK visit these schools every year for assessing their progress and encourage the parents to send their wards for official Konkani classes. So far ten batches of students have passed the State Board examination in SSLC with 100% result. One student scored 100% mark for the first time in the State. We also support UG and PG studies in Konkani.
