T.V.R. Shenoy

Thaliyadi Parambil Vittappa Ramachandra Shenoy also known as T.V.R. Shenoy was    India’s most well-known journalist and columnist. He was born at Cherayi, near Ernakulam, Kerala State. Shenoy had served as the editor of the weekly news magazine, The Week and Sunday Mail and    held various posts in Indian Express and Malayala Manorama. He had written columns for several publications    including    foreign ones, in his career span of    5 decades. He was a writer in    English and in Malyalam language.

Career
Shenoy started his journalism with the Free Press Journal in Bombay and had been associated with Malayala Manorama group for about 25 years. Shenoy has worked as editor of The Week and executive committee member in Prasar Bharati. He moved on to edit the SUNDAY MAIL and has been contributing columns and articles to several national and international newspapers, websites and magazines on issues ranging from national politics, economy, social issues, international affairs to current affairs. One of his toughest assignment was the coverage of the 1971 war between India and Pakistan. From 1995 onwards he switched to freelance journalism. Shenoy was a member of the Board of Trustees of India First Foundation and a director of Manipal Academy.    He is credited with introducing Graphic Reportage in journalism, where a cartoonist utilised the medium of sketching    a cartoon to illustrate a text penned by him. His column ‘Last World’    was one of the most popular column in The Week. A financial – political observer, he had delivered speeches at many places including Oxford University.

Honour
Shenoy was honoured with Padma Bhushan in 2003. He was also honoured with the “Alawite Commander Wissam” from the King of Morocco. An award has been instituted by Prof. Thomas Vidyadhanam Trust in memory of TVR Shenoy. The award comprises a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh and citation.
