प्रो. रघुनाथ कृष्ण राव कोंकणी पंडीत, हिंदी प्राध्यापक, होमियोपती वैद्य, भाषांतरकार, गांधीवादी आनी भारत स्वातंत्र झुजारी जावनशीलो. तो 1914 इसवींत केरळा राज्याचे तृपूणितुरा गांवांत जल्मलो. तो श्री कृष्ण नायक आनी श्रीमती देवकी बाय दंपतीले सुपुत्र. तागेले शिक्षण गांवचे सरकारी शालेंत, एरणाकुळमाच्या रोयल कोलेज ऑफ़ होमियिपतीक फिसिशियन्सांत एल.आर.सि.एच.पि पदवी जोडली.

वृत्ती जीवन
रघुनाथान स्वल्प काळ होमियो वैद्य जावन वृत्ती जीवन केलें. उप्रांत ती वृत्ती सेवाभावान केलें. 1942 इसवींत मद्रास विद्यापीठाची विध्वान परीक्षा उत्तिर्ण जाले उप्रांत कोचीचे जवाहर हिंदी विद्यालयांत प्राचार्य वृत्ती केलें. उप्रांत फ़ोर्ट कोचींतले ब्रिटिश सैनिकांक हिंदी शिकोवच्याक तांची नेमणुक जालें. पूण तांच्या हातांत तें काम देशप्रेमाची आंकरी रोवपांत बदल्लें. सैनिकांमदीं आनी सामान्य जना भीतर स्वराज्य चिंता पसरांवच्या गुन्यावांक ते सात म्हयिने बंदीखाने शिक्षा जालें. 1951 इसवींत मद्रास विद्यापिठांतल्यान ताणे स्नातकोत्तर पदवी जोडली आनी एरणाकुळमाचे सांत आल्बर्ट्स कोलेजांत हिंदी प्राध्यापक जालो. उप्रांत 28 बरस सेवा करून हिंदी विभागाचे मुखेली जावन निवृत्त जालो. 1975 इसवींत ताणे कारणकोडमांत कोंकणी भाषा संस्थो स्थापन करून 30 वरस ताजो संचालक जावन वावर केलें. संस्थे थावन कोंकणी शिक्षक, कोंकणी व्याकरण, कोंकणी उतरावळ, लोकसाहित्य, भाशांतर पुस्तक प्रकट केलां. ताणे साभार कृती कोंकणीक भाशांतर केलां. त्या पयकी दोन दंगाळी भात, ज्ञानपाना (मलयाळम) मलयाळम साहित्याचो इतिहास, तिरुक्कुरल (तमीळ), बषीराल्यो काण्यो प्रमुख जावन आस. कोंकणी स्वयम शिक्षक, कोंकणी व्याकरण, कोंकणी प्राथमीक ताणे शिक्षण बदल बरयिलें पुस्तकं. तळता पानांतल्यान “गोड्डे रामायण” लिप्यंतर आनी संपादन करून प्रकट केलां. वेंकटेश कल्याण आनी लोकगीत ताणे लिप्यंतर आनी संपादन केलेले इतर कृती जावनसात. हिंदीतल्यान मलयाळम आनी कोंकणी भाशांतर पुस्तकाक पुरस्कार दिवचे खातीर ताणे देवकी कृष्ण ट्रस्ट स्थापन केलां.

मान सम्मान
आर.के रावाक कोंकणी भाषा साहित्याक दिलेले देणगी खातीर खूब सम्मान लाभला. तागेले दोन दंगाळी भात कोंकणी भाषांतर कृतीक केंद्र साहित्य अकाडेमी पुरस्कार लाभलां (1991). तो केंद्रीय साहित्य अकाडेमी कोंकणी सल्लागार समितीचो सदस्य आशीलो (1983-85). तो केरळ कोंकणी अकाडेमीचो स्थापकाध्यक्ष जावनशीलो. तो सुकृतींद्र प्राच्यविद्या संशोधन संस्थेचो ’स्कूल ऑफ़ कोंकणी स्टडीस’ संस्थेचो अध्यक्ष जावनशीलो. गोवाचे रामनाथींत घडलेल्या कोंकणी साहित्य परिषद अधिवेशनाचो अध्यक्ष जावनशीलो. डा. टि.एम.ए. पै प्रतिष्ठाना थावन मरणोत्तर सन्मान लाभला. स्वातंत्र झुजारीक दिवचें ताम्रपत्र सन्मान ताका लाभलां.

Prof. R.K. Rao

Prof. Raghunath Krishna Rao was a professor of Hindi, Konkani Scholar, Indian Freedom fighter and a Gandhian from Tripunithura, Kerala. He was also a registered Homeopathic Doctor. He was born on 04-07- 1914 to Sri Krishna Nayak and Smt Devaki bai in Tripunithura, Kerala. He had his schooling at Govt Boys High School, Tripunithura. He took LRCHP Degree from the Royal College of Homeopathic Physicians, Ernakulam.

Career
R.K. Rao practiced Homeopathy for some time and in later years he did the same as a free service. In 1942, he passed the Vidwan Examination of University of Madras and joined the Jawahar Hindi Vidyalaya, Kochi as Pracharak. Soon after, he was assigned the duty of teaching Hindi to the British Military Officers at Fort Kochi. Hindi became an instrument for instilling patriotism. As a result he was jailed for propagating nationalism among soldiers and public. in 1951, he secured a master’s degree in Hindi from the University of Madras. He became a professor of Hindi at the St. Albert’s College, Ernaculam and retired as the Department Head in 1975 after 28 years of service. He has also served as a member of the academic council, Madras University and was a member of the expert committee on Tribal and Minority Languages. From 1994-95, he was the Director of the ‘Gandhi Darshan’ programme conducted by the Gandhi Peace Foundation. In 1975, he founded the Konkani Language Institute at Karanakodam and was its Director for 30 yrs. Under the banner of the Institute, he brought out several invaluable language learners, a grammar book, a vocabulary, rare folklore works and outstanding translation. He has translated many Malayalam and Tamil books into Konkani. His translations are Don Dangali Baat, Malayalam Sahityacho Itihas, Jnanappana, Tirukkural, Basheeralyo Kanyo. Educational books brought out by him are – Konkani Swayam Sikshak, Konkani Vyakaran, Konkani Vocabulary, Konkani Primer. The compiling, editing and transliteration of the epic ‘Godde Ramayan’ from rare palm-leaf manuscripts. Other Folklore books edited, transliterated and published by him are Venkatesh Kalyan and Konkani Lok Geet. He has established the ‘Devaki Krishna Trust’ for the purpose of encouraging translation from Hindi to Malayalam and Konkani.

Awards and Recognition
Prof. R.K. Rao has received the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award for his Konkani translation of a classic Malayalam novel Randiidangazhi as ‘Don Dangali Baat’ in 1991. He was member of the Konkani Advisory Board of Central Sahitya Akademi (1983-88), Founder Chairman of the Kerala Konkani Academy and the Chairman of the School of Konkani Studies set up by the Sukratindra Oriental Research Institute. pover the All India Konkani Parishad held at Ramnathi, Goa (1990). He was honoured posthumously by Dr. T.M.A. Pai Foundation, Manipal. He was bestowed with the freedom fighter’s Tamrapatra.
