ख्यात कन्नड साहिती, नट, नाटककार, रोड्स विद्वान गिरीश कार्नाड 19-05-1938 इसवेंत महराष्ट्राचे माथेरानांत जल्मलो. बापाय रघुनाथ कार्नाड आनी आवय कृष्णा बायी. बाल्य काला दकूनच गिरीशाक नाटक यक्षगान म्हळ्यार विपरीत प्रीती आशीलें. गणित, विज्ञानंत बि.ए. शिक्षण कर्नाटक विश्वविद्यानिलय धारवाड आनी तत्व शास्त्र, राज्यशस्त्र आनी अर्थशात्रांत एम.ए. पदवी (1960-63) ओक्स्फ़र्ड विश्वविद्यानिलय, इंगलेंडांत जोडलें. त्या वेळार तो ओक्स्फ़र्ड युनियनाचो अध्यक्ष (1962-63) जावन आशीलो.
वृत्ती जीवन
ओक्सफ़र्ड युनिवरसिटी प्रेस, मद्रासांत 7 वरस वावरा उप्रांत ते कामाक राजिनाम दीवनु ह्व्यासी नाटक पंगडांत मेळ्ळो. 1987-88 इसवेंत चिकागो विश्वविद्यानिलयाक अतिथी उपन्यासक जावनु ताणे भेट दिलें. त्या वेळार कार्नाडान इंगलीश भाशेक भाशांतर केल्लेलें कन्नड भाशेचे प्रसिद्ध नाटक नागमंडल नाटकाचो पयलो प्रयोग केलो. चलनचित्र आनी दूरदर्शन संस्थेचो निर्देशक जावनु ताणे काम केलां.
कार्नाडान कन्नड भाशेंत खूब नाटक बरोवनु नटन निर्देषन आनी इतर भाशेक भाशांतर केलां. त्या पयकी ययाती, तुघलक, तलेदंड, नागमंडल, हयवदन, अग्नि मत्तु मळे नाटक मुख्य जावनसात. संस्कार, वंशवृक्ष, वोंदानोंदु कलदल्लि, तब्बलियु नीनादे मगने, काडु, चेलुवि, कानूरु हेग्गडती, मौनी आदी कन्नड चलन्चित्र, गोधूळि, उत्सव, निशांत, मंथन, स्वामी, पुकार, इक्बाल, तस्वीर, आशायें, एक था टाय्गर, डोर, टाय्गर ज़िंदा है आदी हिंदी चलनचित्रांत नटन केलां.
प्रशस्ती आनी सम्मान
गिरीश क्र्नाशाक ज्ञानपीठ प्रशस्ती 1998, पद्मश्री (1974) आनी पद्मभूशण (1992) प्रशस्ती, 4 फ़िल्मफ़ेर प्रशस्ती लाभले. त्या पयकी 3 उत्तम निर्देशक प्रशस्ती जावनसात. राज्योत्सव प्रशस्ती, संगीत नाटक अकाडेमी प्रशस्ती, साहित्य अकाडेमी प्रशस्ती (1994) काळिदास सम्मान (1998) लाभलां. ताका सदर्न केलिफ़ोर्निय विश्वविद्यानिलय, लोस एंजल्स दाकून गौरव डाक्टरेट दिलां.
Girish Karnad was an actor, film director, Kannada writer, playwright and Rhodes scholar. Karnad was born on 19th May 1938 in Matheran, Maharashtra. Raghunath Karnad and Krishnabai were his parents. Karnad was an ardent admirer of yakshagana and the theater. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics and Statistics from Karnatak Arts college, Dharwad in 1958. After graduation he went to England and studied Philosophy, Political Science and Economics at Magdalen in Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. Karnad was elected as president of the Oxford Union in 1962-63.
career
After working with the oxford university press, chennai for 7 years, he resigned and got involved with local amateur theatre group. During 1987-88, he was at the university of Chicago as visiting professor. During the tenure at Chicago, Nagamandala had its world premiere based on his English translation of the kannada original. He served as director of the Film and Television Institute of India.
Karnad is known as a playwright. His plays written in Kannada, have been translated into English and some Indian languages. Yayati, Tughalaq, Taledanda, Nagamandala, hayavadana, Agni Mattu Male are his famous Kannada dramas. Samskara, vamshavraksha, Godhuli, Utsav, Ondanondu kaladalli, Tabbaliyu Neenade Magane, Kadu, Cheluvi, Kanuru Heggadati, Mauni are some of his award winning Kannada films. He also acted in Hindi Films – Nishanth, Manthan, Swami, Pukar, Iqbal, Tasveer, Aashayein, Ek tha Tiger,Tiger zinda hai, Dor.
Awards and Honours
Karnad was honoured with prestigious Jnanapitha award in 1998, Padmashri in 1974, Padmabhushan in 1992, Rajyotsava award 1970, Sangeet Natak Academy Award 1972, Sahitya Academy Award 1994, Kalidas Samman in 1998. He Bagged 4 Filmfare awards 3 of them for best direction. he also recieved Honarary Doctorate from University of Southern California, Los Angels 2011.
