Training for Konkani Teachers held

Mangalore, May 29: One day orientation training camp for Konkani Language Teachers being appointed by Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation in the schools of Dakshina Kannada, Uttarakannada and Udupi Districts was held at World Konkani Centre Mangalore on 29th May 2010.

President of the Foundation Shri Basti Vaman Shenoy inaugurated the camp and delivered a key note speech. Secretary of Karnataka Konkani Linguistic Minority Education Institutions association (KKLMEIA), Dr. Kasturi Mohan Pai, Eminent Konkani Poet and linguist Shri Melvyn Rodrigues and Eminent Educationist Dr. Devadas Pai motivated the Teachers and trained them in essence of Language pedagogy aspects. Shri Venkatesh N. Baliga, secretary of the foundation, moderated a brain storming session in the beginning of the camp. Gurudath Bantwalkar, Asst. Director, World Institute of Konkani Language, coordinated the camp.

Konkani Language and cultural foundation had invited the applications for the post of Konkani Language Teachers to be appointed in 10 schools under KKLMEIA and Catholic Education Board as a pilot project. The project will be spread across all the schools which have potential for introducing Konkani language as third language from 6th std onwards in next five years. The interview for the teachers held on 15th May and selected 10 teachers who participated in the above training will render their services as Konkani Teachers from June 1st onwards.
